Background: I take Celebrex for pain because so far (besides Lyrica, which really works for nerve pain not joint pain), nothing else works. My doctor said the next thing to try would be a heavier narcotic, and I am not a fan of that class of drugs if I can possibly avoid it.
Recently: So when I was in the hospital they took me off my Celebrex (a pain medication), but didn't give anyone a clear reason why. The nursing staff apparently kind of implied to my father that maybe-sorta it might have been an oversight of not getting put into the computer, but they weren't sure and of course couldn't say because litigation hush hush.
None of my regular doctors wanted to restart the Celebrex without knowing why it was stopped. Meanwhile, I was/am getting into an increasingly bad pain flare. Like, can't really spin at all because I can't stand because my feet hurt too much because my plantar fasciitis is flaring, and a spinning wheel thus wouldn't work either. Frell. (Which is why I'm now playing Animal Crossing: New Leaf as a coping mechanism right now, but that's another post. *squees to self*)
Yesterday: The pain got so bad that I was getting srsly depressed, so my mom suggested I just take the damn Celebrex already. So I did. And then about an hour later I had a seizure. And another. And another and another and another. I think I had about 10-20 in the first hour. We lost count. Meanwhile my partner tried hard not to say, "I told you so," because she'd sent me an email on drug interactions and apparently Celebrex does not play nice with my other drugs, most notably Lithium and Abilify. In extreme cases, it can cause seizures, muscle twitching, and, oh wait for it, intestinal bleeding.
Now: It would be so great if all my problems could be traced to one source, even though I really really really Do Not Want this pain right now. Celebrex has been "great", at least for pain, in that I could do more than lie on the couch and go "ow." So I really hope we can get this under control.
Until then, I guess I'll be playing a lot of New Leaf and other video games. And watching TV. Hey, maybe Celebrex caused my book-reading-halting brain fog, too. Wouldn't that be great/terrible?
ETA: Also, due to med half life, I can look forward to another 2 days of side effects at least. Weeeee!

Date: 2013-08-07 11:29 am (UTC)I found celebrex made me more drowsy/brainfogged than usual. Ibruprofen, too. I've had a lot of Drs be skepticl at me about this, but recently I found a (multiply peer reviewed) site by a university that said
"Do NSAIDS cross into the
nervous system?
Yes, this is why some people get side effects such as dizziness, headaches and drowsiness."

Date: 2013-08-07 02:34 pm (UTC)Did you just get New Leaf? How is it?
:( That's a horrible way to find out that the Celebrex may very well be the cause of the seizures.
in which I ramble...
Date: 2013-08-09 03:21 am (UTC)New Leaf is AMAZING. They fixed a lot of things that were really annoying in the old games (to name *just a few*: you get to pick your own town map; you get to pick where your house goes *anywhere* as opposed to just out of four houses; there's no long tutorial; Blathers takes bulk donations at the museum). They also added a lot of new features (there are TWO places to choose from in selling your goods! there's greater ease of online connectivity! you're the mayor and can do public works projects).
That being said, it is not for my partner's brain. There are merit badges for how many fish you've caught and things like that, and a lot more goal-oriented activities versus being more open sandbox. She is more platformer or open-sandbox-gamer rather than all-the-mini-quests-with-no-set-deadlines. (Except for when villagers give you things to do, those only last a day, so you no longer have three days of them asking you for an eel.) But yeah, building your house AND the town AND maintaining the town can be a lot of work...which is why you can also pass ordinances which allow you to do things like make weeds less likely to come up and no cockroaches ever, or make shops stay open later OR earlier, or make things sell for more to vendors &tc. But for me, with a thing that is all CONCENTRATE ON SOMETHING OR ELSE YOU WILL SEIZE RIGHT NOW it is GREAT. YMMV, of course.

Date: 2013-08-07 09:53 pm (UTC)Well, this is a bit of a mixed blessing, isn't it? You may have a cause for both the seizures and the Crohn's-like symptoms and yet off the drug that has been giving you pain relief.
I send lots of good thoughts for figuring out what's behind all this, and what can make you happy and active and so on again...

Date: 2013-08-09 12:46 am (UTC)I am glad you have at least one cause pinpointed, and I rather hope it's the cause of the Crohn's-type symptoms too, because then the fix is simple (maybe not easy, but somewhat simple).
At any rate, booooo seizures! Yaaaaaaaay accidental scientific method! :-P
